Key Stage One is the first key stage within the National Curriculum and comprises of Years 1 and 2. At St Mary's these two year groups sometimes learn together as Willow Class but where possible we teach them in separate year groups to ensure good progression is made in the core subjects of reading, writing and maths. To ensure there is no repetition of topics for subjects taught together, we use a 2 year rolling curriculum cycle.
Usually pupils' progress is measured at the end of Year 2 by statutory assessment tasks but due to the Covid 19 pandemic these did not take place in 2020 or 2021. Instead, St Mary's staff have used their own 'teacher assessments' to measure progress.
